Union City Scores a Goal With Youth!

GOALLLL!!!!  Union City Youth Soccer League, Inc. is a Spring League which involves a great varitie oh kids from Union City. Its goal statement says, "The purpose of this LEAGUE shall be to develop, promote, and administer the game of soccer for the youth of Union City, with the high ideals of sportsmanship and fair play according to the LAWS OF THE GAME." With that said I would have to say like all the other little leagues it is a great way to help teach youth the importance of being a team player while they are having fun. Soccer is a great way to promote young kids to stay healthy and active as well since it is seen as a "life long" sport. The league appreciates parents coming out showing support, and having a great time while their kid is doing the same.

AAU Basketball

Heres a basketball league thats all business! The Rebels of San Francisco are one of the very competitive teams in the Bay Area. The team was founded in 1990, "to empower and strengthen inner city youth and their families by providing comprehensive youth development through education, athletics, advocacy, after school, recreational activities, job placement, leadership training and other supportive services." The teams go by grade level to make playing a fun but fair way to learn and compete against other teams. On the website right now the only grade level shown is 8th, but with further investigation i saw that their is young boys and girls playing in 4th to high school.

One thing that set this team apart from any other team that i researched in AAU, is the importance of community, home life, and academics. Unlike most youth sports, where you simply go to practice learn, play and go home. The Rebels coaches are more concerned on how they can help turn these young players into productive members of this society. The coaches check periodically the boys/girls grades, have curfew checks with parents, and if necessary will act as a 3rd or 4th link with parol officers. This team is a classic example of how sports can change someones life. My hat goes off to the Rebels and their coaching staff.

San Jose Isn't The Only City That Plays Hockey

Bet you thought i was talking about ice hockey! I found a great field hockey league called the Northern California Field Hockey Association (NCFHA). Sorry guys but this one is only for ladies. There is practices in September and October for girls 6-13 years old. "Pick-up games" are held on Wednesdays and everything is at beautiful Stanford University. The games for youth are more about teaching the basics of the game, but there is also a adult league that plays other local and non local teams. If your not to graceful on ice but wondered about hockey, I think this may be for you.

Little Homerun Hitters

Hey sluggers heres another Little League In the San Francisco Bay Area. Fremont National Youth Baseball (FNYB) has been providing a safe but very competitive baseball for kids from the ages of 5-16. FNYB is divided into 3 different divisions so competition is fair. It is a very close nit community thats main objective is to make sure kids are having fun. I personally played 4 years for FNYB and i never had more fun or better coaching then any other league i've played for. Game schedules do at times interfere at times, since you have one game during the week usually played around 4p.m. On Saturday early afternoons you can hear the 2 different playing fields filled with typical baseball chants and proud parents supporting their kids.
